How Do We Provide Tailor Made Care?

THE FIRST VISIT

During your FIRST VISIT you will meet the chiropractor who will take a full a full case history. This gives you the opportunity to explain in your own words everything you know about your problem, pains, discomfort and general health. After this a complete and thorough orthopaedic, neurological and spinal examination will be carried out. This will lead to a specific diagnosis and will determine if Chiropractic care is advisable. In the vast majority of cases X-rays and Scans are not needed but if required we will make the necessary referral. Obviously, if you are in need of medical attention we will refer you back to your G.P. with a complementary letter.

THE TREATMENT

If your problem lies within the Chiropractic scope of practice the first aim of the TREATMENT will be to give you a full explanation of what your problem entails and we will arrive at a tailor-made treatment plan.
‘Knowledge is power’ and from that premise we believe that treatment, compliance and results are easier achievable. Although, each treatment plan has its specific personalised aspects and goals, our blueprint is one of patient centred care underpinned with evidence based support.

THE NUMBER OF TREATMENTS you need will depend on the type and severity of the condition and how you are responding to treatment. However, your chiropractor will always discuss your personal needs and you will have a good idea before treatment commences.

A general FRAMEWORK OF OUR TREATMENT is one of a combination of gentle manipulation, soft tissue work, exercises, electro physiotherapy and advice.

MANIPULATION is usually painless and can be done by hands or with a specific instrument, called; The Activator. The aim of the manipulation is to free up the stiff joints. Sometimes (and NOT always) the manipulation can cause a popping sound. This audible crack is normal and caused by the sound of gas bubbles in the fluid of the joint. However, the audible release is not an indication of a successful treatment and many manipulative techniques have no popping sound at all.

MASSAGE or soft tissue work forms an integral part in almost all of our treatments. Its main aim is to relax the muscles around the stiff joint to provide a better working condition for that joint. Massage can be delivered in a gently but firm way or occasionally can be tender when trigger points are treated.

EXCERCISES are given to our patients like ‘home work’ and one should continue with these to support and maintain the treatment goal. Exercises can be divided into mobility exercises, stretches, muscle strengthening or core stability exercises.

ELECTRO PHYSIOTHERAPY consist of ultra sound and interferential treatment. Ultra sound is mainly used in the acute sport injury type of lesion where the reduction of the swelling is the main aim. Interferential treatment has a general soothing effect and assists with pain relief, relaxation of muscles and stimulation of the local circulation.

ADVICE will be tailored to your personal needs and can include advice on posture, over the counter medication, exercise classes, diet and general do and don’ts.

Dry Needling Technique

If needed, we will use an alternative method to provide pain relief via the DRY NEEDLING TECHNIQUE. This is sometimes erroneously referred to as ‘pain acupuncture’. We like to call it dry needling as it is an adjunct treatment within our Chiropractic care plan and should not be confused with acupuncture as a whole.
The aim of dry needling is to reduce the painful trigger points in the muscle which can result in pain relief and muscle relaxation.
